Mahiakalo ward MCA Modester Auka has urged graduates of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) to pursue skilled jobs, as white-collar jobs are no longer as readily available.
Speaking during the recent graduation ceremony, she said that although the government is trying to create jobs, graduates should venture into skilled jobs and self-employment.
She advised them to be committed to skilled jobs and entrepreneurship, as this is the way forward.
As schools closed for two months and with the festive season approaching, the MCA urged parents to spend less and save money for school fees when schools reopen in January.
“Parents have to know that children must return to school and should not strain looking for school fees. Have a humble time as schools reopen. It should not happen that children are still at home when they are supposed to be in school,” she noted.

The MCA appealed to the government to ensure that bursary funds are available before January so that students can return to school without any hindrances.
With Christmas and New Year celebrations just around the corner, she said it’s a difficult time for girls, as they often fall prey to teenage pregnancies and forget that they are still students.
She urged girls to take care of themselves and study while waiting for schools to reopen in the new year, 2025.
Modester encouraged students to respect their parents, as this is the only way to move forward without facing challenges.
