Gusii elites mourn death of ex-Bonchari MP who promoted education

The late Zebedeoh John Opore.

Education stakeholders from Kisii and Nyamira counties led by Dennis Orioki, a youth leader, have mourned former Bonchari MP Zebedeoh John Opore as a man who loved and promoted education during his tenure.

“His legacy will stand as a testament to the power of good leadership, beacon of democracy, advocacy in the education of the poor and women empowerment,” said Orioki.

A close family member revealed that the MP breathed his last on Thursday after a long illness bravely borne in different hospitals including in India.

The late Opore was born in 1947 in Bonchari constituency where he attended his basic education.

After high school, he joined the University of Nairobi where he earned a Bachelors’ degree in Economics before proceeding to the UK for a Masters degree in Economics at the University of Bradford in 1982.

The late was elected as MP for the constituency in 1997 before serving as the Minister for Information and Broadcasting during former President Moi’s regime.

His demise comes barely two years after his wife’s death.
