Residents of Mwamotoka Village, Bogeka Ward in Kisii county are still in shock after a Kisii National Polytechnic student died over his parents’ refusal to take him to hospital due to their faith.
According to the villagers who spoke to Education News, 24-year old Josiah Kumba fell sick but his parents never took him to hospital saying that it was against their faith.
Following the news, fellow students visited the home and threatened to lynch the parents for allowing the unfortunate incident but were restrained by villagers who urged them to let the law take its course.
They appealed to Kisii County Commissioner Joseph Kibet to urgently probe the family to possibly save other affected family members.
“He stayed sick in the house for three weeks without any treatment. We decided to take him to hospital and forced our way into the house where we found him in critical condition. He died shortly after while undergoing treatment,” said his uncle.
The father of the deceased, Vincent Kumba, said that since he married 30 years ago none of his family members have fallen sick due to his persistent prayers.
“None of my four children was born in hospital, not that it is bad but we do not believe in hospitals for healing but God,” he said.

His wife Vane Kwaboka and her daughter Faith Kumba concurred with the father saying that their faith is anchored on faith in God and not on human medicine.
“I am happy that God gave me a son who has now slept. He is not dead. I hope to meet him when he shall all wake up because death is only deep sleep,” he said.
