There was joy and ululations at the Mama Ngina Children Home in Kisumu after the institution’s chairman Stephen Nyandiare donated assorted items to the 68 young kids resident in the facility.
The centre manager Helen Tuli was at hand to receive the goods, including maize and wheat flour, cooking oil, milk, groceries, shoes, bed sheets, blankets, slippers and clothes, among others.
Speaking during the exercise, Nyandiare who is also eyeing the Kisumu Senatorial position said there was dire need for the children to be integrated back to the community.
The chairman said that some of the children at the institution are those who have been neglected by the community due to various reasons.

“Such reasons range from cultural inclinations to health conditions such as disabilities,” he regretted, advising people to accept their children even with disabilities.
Tuli said some of the children who are fortunate to have found refuge in the shelter were abandoned by their parents and kin.
“Some were abandoned immediately after birth, while some found their way into the streets after losing their parents. Some have just been going through hell in the hands of their caregivers. But here, they have found love,” she said.
The manager said shortage of food and clothing has been the facility’s main challenge, having been established in 1965 under the name ‘The Kak Hostel for Vulnerable Children’.
