Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions are projected to receive a huge boost courtesy of President William Ruto’s visit to China for the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.

The institutions will receive phase three of the upgraded modern equipment programme, which is among other expected developments namely; the construction of rural roads across the country, the Nairobi Intelligent Transport System, and the Bosto Dam Water Supply Project.

Last month, 70 TVETs benefitted from equipment loans worth Ksh13 billion.

The equipment, supplied in mechanical technology, electrical and electronic technology, agricultural machinery technology, mechatronics technology and agricultural value addition technology departments, were posed to help trainees in institutions to gain cutting-edge skills in high demand in the global labour market.

President Ruto will co-chair a session on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and later attend the China-Africa Entrepreneurs Conference, where he will advocate for increased Chinese investment in Kenya’s infrastructure, healthcare and technology sectors.

Discussions will also centre on extending and completing phases 2B and 2C of the SGR, dualling the Nairobi Northern Bypass and other critical infrastructure projects.

A statement from the State House notes that these initiatives are consistent with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which aims to create job opportunities for the country’s youth and women.
