The National Treasury has allocated Ksh29.7 billion to basic learning and university education to boost the education sector as schools prepare to reopen on August 26.
The State Department of Basic Education has received a total of Ksh21.8 billion with Ksh1.6 billion designated for Free Primary Education (FPE) for the third term.
Ksh14.1 billion has been allocated to Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE), while Ksh6.1 billion has been set aside for Junior Secondary Education, also for third term.
This news comes as a relief to schools that had struggled with delays in capitation disbursement, with some resorting to the acquisition of loans to manage their daily operations.
Meanwhile, the State Department for Higher Education and Research has been allocated Ksh7.9 billion.
Further, Ksh5.1 billion has been directed to the Education Loans Board to support students while the remaining Ksh2.8 billion has been disbursed to the Universities Fund Board.
