The Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu has invited private firms to audit Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions and provide insight into how they spent Ksh24 billion in the 2022/2023 financial year.
“The office of the Auditor-General invites sealed tender for the provision of audit services for audits of the TVETs on behalf of the Office of the Auditor-General for the financial year 2022-2023. The TVETs have been grouped and clustered into 27 lots,” the Auditor-General said in a tender call.
Over 2000 TVETs in the country have used Ksh23.9 billion allocated to them in the 2022/23 fiscal year out of the Ksh24.16 billion allocated to the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training.
The Treasury, during the year, had allocated Ksh3.8 billion for infrastructure development and expansion across TVETs, Ksh18.8 billion for technical trainers and instructor services, and Ksh1 billion for technical accreditation and quality assurance.
This financial year, the government has allocated Ksh28.3 billion to TVETs.
The State Department had planned various projects to be implemented during the year, including the completion of the construction of Nyandarua Hospitality Complex Block, Kaiboi Science & Engineering Complex, Ugunja, Gichugu, Kieni and Magarini Technical institutes.
These projects are among some of those that will be audited to establish whether there was value for money in the undertaking.
TVETs form a key part of President Ruto’s economic blueprint aimed at unlocking job opportunities for the youth through technical skills.
