Some MPs from Nyamira County have promised to vote against the Finance Bill 2024 on the final voting day because it is a burden on parents.
Led by Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba), Patrick Osero ( Borabu) and Steve Mogaka of West Mugirango, they said that majority of Kenyans have challenges of taking their children to school and passing the Bill is like telling them to forget this duty and pay taxes.
“I will be in the forefront to oppose the Bill in Parliament and I ask the Woman Representative and Osero to support me,” Gisairo said.
Speaking at Nyakwerema village in Nyamira County during a burial, he urged President William Ruto to hearken to the voice of the people instead of provoking them into excessive agitation that might lead to disruptions in the country.
He cited the Gen-Z demonstrations as a sample for the president to interpret the mood of Kenyans and take a quick rational step to calm the situation.
“We don’t want our international reputation that we have gained in the last few months (to be lost) but ours is to agitate for a smooth economic coexistence for all Kenyans,” he said.
Former Borabu MP Ben Momanyi called for dialogue between the government and the citizens for a harmonious State stability.
He asked the youth not to be ensnared in road demonstrations but be patient and leave the legislators who are mandated representatives of the people to fight for them.
On another matter, they blamed Nyamira County Government for stalled ECDE projects, attributing it to Senator Okong’o Omogeni whom they alleged had abdicated his oversight duties.
