Excitement as Ruto drives new bus into Mitunguu TTI before presenting it

Last week, President William Ruto was spotted driving a new bus that he presented to Mitunguu Technical Training Institute (TTI), attracting both awe and excitement of his passengers.

Accompanied by Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to the college in South Imenti in Meru County, the president took the joy ride, probably to add drama to the presentation of the new acquisition.

In a video posted on social media, President Ruto is seen driving the bus himself, with Gachagua, Kindiki and other government officials, as well as students, on board as passengers.

President Ruto promised last year to buy the new bus

The video captures Ruto smiling while greeting the students before he got on the bus to take the driver’s seat. After honking, he directed the students to board the vehicle.

“Let the students get on board,” Ruto said.

Ruto took the wheel amid applause from all the passengers. Gachagua, taking a seat next to a student in the co-driver’s seat, silently took in the view outside. He later gave a cash donation, stating that he also wanted to celebrate with the students.

This is not the first time that the president has taken such security risks. Last year, he rode in a rally car at top speed as a decoy co-driver, sparking debate on national security and whether it was in order to breach the protocols.

Mitunguu Technical Training Institute is located along Mati road, 1.5 kilometres from  in Mitunguu Ward, Imenti South Constituency, Meru County and is headed by Principal Caroline Muguna.
