Parents of Kang’amboni Primary School in Mwahera Location in Ganze Sub-county in Kilifi County have asked Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to chase away marauding elephants believed to have strayed from Tsavo East National Park.
Speaking to Education News from Kang’amboni village recently, the parents led by their spokesman, Richard Moneni said that their school children cannot go to school in the early hours in the morning because of fear of being attacked by the elephants.
They disclosed that their children cannot report to school at 6am as required by the school management, further noting that their children report to school at 7am because of the presence of the fierce animals near the school.
“You should come forward and chase away the elephants to their respective areas to enable our children have effective learning,” parents told KWS.

They also claimed that the elephants invaded their farms at night and destroyed their bananas and cassava crops which they had planned to sell and pay school fees for their school children.
“We do not have any crop to sell to get money to pay school fees and for domestic use,” added the parents.
When contacted for comments on the marauding elephants, Mwahera Location Senior Chief Alfred Safari Deri confirmed the presence of the marauding elephants and said that he reported the matter to Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials who took quick action by returning the elephants to their respective Tsavo East National Park.
He told the area residents not to have more worries, but instead to go about their activities now that the elephants have been chased away by the KWS officials.
The Chief further asked residents to report immediately to his office just in case they sight the elephants for quick action to be taken.
