Secret to success of Lomut Primary School in West Pokot

Lomut Day and Boarding Primary School, in West Pokot County has been posting very high performance maintaining a mean score of over 323 for a period of over ten years.

Speaking during the capacity building exercise cum-closure meeting at the Mid-Point restaurant in Bendera, the county Curriculum Support Officer Neilson Musani thanked the stakeholders for maintaining commendable results for a very long period.

He asserted that the principal had always sought assistance from the office especially when there was need and asked others to emulate what happens at that particular institution which is over 200 kilometres away from where the meeting was being held.

On his side, the Principal Nicholas Molo who was speaking to the press, disclosed that there was a raft of measures that had been enacted to realise the high performance.

He said that the teacher-learner contact and interaction had been greatly improved which has been a game changer in the learners general performance.

The head of the institution advised that staff meetings outside the school setting was a step of great help to the general performance of a particular institution.

Asked what the additional secret of performance is, the senior teacher Philip Limanyang said that appropriate questioning, modelling and explanation technique has been adapted by the school.

He added that regular insets facilitated by education officers, the Teachers Service Commission personnel and parents are normally organised to hone teaching skills to be abreast with the latest developments in the education arena.

He added that excellent reward is given to top performing staff members and competition is enhanced. Disagreements are resolved promptly and an open dialogue encouraged among all the members.

Our school acknowledges individual strengths and has outlined each team members responsibilities. In games, we are not left behind as we are a towering institution.
