Kilifi County Government will soon employ 150 new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers to enhance effective teaching and learning.
Speaking to Education News in his office in Kilifi town recently, Kilifi County Government Education Ministry Chief Officer, Fredrick Nguma disclosed that currently the ECDE section has 1,200 ECDE teachers who are not even enough compared to the ever increasing number of pre-primary children who need to be given strong foundation by the teachers.
He further revealed that currently the county administration has 812 ECDE centres, adding that majority of them being modern ones.
The Chief Officer also stated that the county administration has prioritised the Nursery Education Section so as to ensure that the Nursery School children receive strong foundation.

“Children who underwent ECDE course will not have some difficulties in reading and writing when they go to lower class,” noted Nguma.
He urged parents in the county to offer equal educational opportunities to all their children irrespective of gender.
He, however revealed that the county’s rapid development needed educated people.
Meanwhile, Nguma has said that the county will soon employ 50 additional instructors to teach in the existing 42 Vocational Training Centres (VTC) in the region.
He asked parents in the county to enroll their children who completed KCPE and KCSE to Vocational and Training Centres to acquire various basic technical skills in different fields.
