The National Government through the Ministry of Health and Kenya Medical Training College Nairobi will construct a four storeyed building worth KSh100m in Teso North to be undertaken in three phases.
Addressing the press after the ground breaking ceremony outside the college at Cochlea, Teso North Member of Parliament, Oku Kaunya said phase one will cost to the tune of KSh35 million and will have an administration block, two skills laboratories, and lecturer room. It will entail the completion of the ground floor.
“This is part of expansion plans for the college aimed at creating more space to accommodate more students engaged in clinical medicine, nursing, and other courses,” said the MP said.
He added: “This will also go a long way in improving the lives of residents living near the institution through construction of hostels, small-scale traders, and hawkers.”

Kaunya asked Nairobi-based Ideal Construction Company that won the bid to undertake the construction to do a good job and work within stipulated time frame.
The legislator also presented KSh5.3million cheque to the college principal, Daniel Kurui, and his deputy Cyrus Shivira. The cheque is part of KSh10m NG-CDF sponsorship of 120 students undertaking various courses at the college.
The legislator also revealed that CDF has offered full scholarship to 300 students undertaking various courses at KMTC campuses across the country.
Meanwhile, KMTC Teso Campus Students Representative Council (SRC), Jesse Brian, has written to the MP requesting for his support in financing four projects for the development of the institution and the community.
The projects include purchasing a public address system, a projector, and building the students’ gazebo for carrying out their private studies.
The other request is building the boda boda riders a shade stand. This will help in marketing the institution and create a good relationship between the community and the institution.
