The Mawego National Polytechnic has been closed indefinitely following unrest that saw students from two different factions clashing, paralyzing learning for the past two days.
The two divisions are the students who joined from the National Youth Service (NYS) on one side and the regulars on the other.
The battle lines were drawn along this axis. This was after a student from the NYS was badly beaten and injured by a colleague from the rival side.
That bruised student was taken to hospital for treatment as revenge and counter-revenge took the better of the students back in college.
The closure came as the retaliations escalated, the college fearing that worse may happen as the situation had not been contained.
