Three students of Meru Poly killed in road crash to spark angry protests by colleagues

Irate Meru National Polytechnic students protest along the Meru - Nanyuki highway after 3 students died in a road accident yesterday evening.

Three students from Meru National Polytechnic have died in a tragic road accident along the Meru – Nanyuki highway, prompting the learners to go on rampage.

The three students were skating along a bypass near the institution when they were hit by a speeding vehicle yesterday evening.

One of the students died on the spot while the other two succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The trio was part of a group of students skating on the main road at the time of the accident.

Following the unfortunate incident, business at the usually busy highway came to a standstill today as students staged demonstrations.

A police van zooms past the protesting students after their colleagues were killed in an accident.

Hundreds of students took to the streets, barricading the main highway leading to Meru town and ignited a bonfire, effectively halting the traffic flow.

The protesting students were demanding justice for their fallen colleagues.

As the crowd continued to bulge, the students made a procession from the institution and trekked towards Meru town while singing and waving placards.

They accused the police of reluctance to take action against the driver who caused the accident due to careless driving.

The students demanded immediate justice for the deceased even as they called on the relevant authorities to take action against the driver.
