Homa Bay County Government will partner with the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) to ensure bright students from poor homes have access to education.

Speaking in Homa Bay town on Saturday, Governor Gladys Wanga confirmed that her government had provided full secondary school scholarship for 240 pupils who sat for the 2023 KCPE examinations.

In a speech read by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Martin Opere, Wanga said that the scholarship was an initiative from her own Foundation, Fins to Swim.

“This foundation is meant to give equal opportunities to bright children from disadvantaged homes,” she said.

Opere said that the beneficiaries were selected on merit from the 40 wards across the county.

The Minister, who took stock of past beneficiaries, thanked the national government for assisting 256 KCPE candidates to join secondary schools through JKF’s Elimu Scholarship programme.

Speaking to Education News on phone, the County Director of Education (CDE) Eunice Khaemba confirmed that the two groups of beneficiaries had reported and settled in their respective schools.
