Musoma AC Primary School in Bunyala South ward emerged position 27 out of 41 schools in Budalangi constituency despite grappling with a flooding menace that has become a major challenge to its academic performance.

However, the challenge seems to not have killed the spirit and determination of learners especially the candidates to perform well in the national exams.

According to the area’s 2023 KCPE results analysis, the flood-prone school surprised education stakeholders when 39 out of 58 candidates scored 250 and above marks, giving them an express ticket to transit to secondary school.

The has suffered for many years from persistent flooding caused by the backflow of Lake Victoria that ends up spilling its waters into the school compound.

In 2020, learning was disrupted at the neighboring Musoma Secondary School, a situation that compelled the area education department to relocate the students to Santo Teachers Training College (TTC).

Speaking on behalf of the school, outgoing BoM Chairperson Felix Chitoma said that there was an urgent need by the county and national governments to find a lasting solution to the matter.

Chitoma, however, lauded the county government of Busia for providing relief food to flood victims as well as starting a feeding programme for the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) pupils.
