President William Ruto has announced that plans are underway to employ 20,000 more teachers this year.
Ruto said that the move aims to make quality education accessible to all children in the country.
The president emphasized the importance of a well-equipped education system in shaping the nation’s future, acknowledging its vital role in individual development and societal progress.
“With the addition of 20,000 teachers, we’re taking a significant step in our commitment to providing quality education to every child in Kenya. We believe education is a fundamental right and every child deserves access to it,” he said.
Ruto said that the delay in disbursement of funds to counties was due to the decision to prioritize the education sector.
The president said the government aims to allocate more resources to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to enhance the quality of education.
“We have prioritized investment in education for the development of the nation. While the delay may cause concerns among local governments, their needs will be fully addressed once the education sector is adequately supported. This strategic move reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child accesses education,” he said.
