Bright girl awaiting admission to university dies in road crash in Kisii

A bright girl who recently scored a B+ in the 2023 KCSE has died in a road crash barely a month after celebrating the milestone, throwing the family and the entire Bobaracho village in Nyaribari Chache Constituency into sudden mourning.

The dark clouds of misfortune engulfed when a Matatu hit Nicole Nyamoita on the Jogoo-Gusii National Polytechnic Junction within the Kisii Municipality as she haggled with a boda boda rider over the fare they were to pay back home.

“She was standing at the Junction with her colleague bargaining with a boda boda to ferry them home when the Matatu hit them,” reported Dauglas Achoki, an eye witness.

When the sad news reached her Bobaracho home situated five kilometres away from Kisii -Keroka road, the whole village was thrown into mourning to see that they had just lost a star whom they had only recently celebrated.

“Now the village star has been blurred by the demise of my daughter in whom we had invested,” said her mother.

She said that her daughter who sat her examinations at Kisumu Girls High school was waiting to join university, aspiring to be a Mechanical Engineer as the very first from the village.

Kisii County Police Boss Charles Keses confirmed the death, saying his officers had swung into action to establish the facts.

Residents of Kisii town who spoke to Education News said that Faraja Moja Junction where the accident occurred has turned into a black spot.

They appealed to both the national and county governments to take quick safety measures to avoid further deaths.

They cited potholes, lack of proper road safety signs and careless bodaboda riders as some of the real problems they are facing.

According to Kisii County Traffic Police report, the county has lost five people to road accidents within the last one week along Kisii-Kilgoris,Kisii -Keroka and Nyatieko -Marani Highways.
