Students in institutions of higher learning have been asked to foster national unity through participation in community cultural activities.
The nominee for Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed (pictured) said some cultural activities like traditional songs and dance have good values that could be explored to spread the message of peace in the country.
In a speech read on her behalf by Commission for University Education Chairman, Prof Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha during Kisii University Cultural Week 2018, the CS advised the youth to shun drug abuse which tainted their public image against society’s expectations from them.
She asked them to participate in cultural research that will enrich their mental aptness and heritage because they are the future leaders of the country.
She said the education is special endowment to mankind and asked those who have acquired it to use it as the strongest tool that can be used to salvage man from the ignorance.
“The aesthetic body movement with melodious music of human breath and testimonies that deity is the supremacy of peace and beauty that should be embraced by humanity,” she said.
On his part, Chacha took a swipe at Kisii County Government for not supporting the university that stand stone’s throw away from the Governor’s office.
Saying that charity begins at home, he thus asked Governor James Ongwae to show concern towards the institution’s development projects.
“The Governor needs to show appreciation even by gracing an occasion like this,” he said.
