Kajiado County beseeched to fix Kandisi Bridge for safe passage of children

Flooded Kandisi River in Ongata Rongai. Children are unable to get to school and home when it rains, depending on where the rain catches them.

The Kajiado County Government has been beseeched to fix the Kandisi Bridge to make it easy for children to get to school, as well as avert the dangers posed by the flooding Kandisi River.

The bridge has been a great risk to children when it rains. On Friday last week for instance, children were unable to get back home in the evening as the waters raged.

The construction of the bridge was abandoned in the year 2018.

James Kamau, a Kandisi resident, said they are forced to keep the children away from schools during rainy spates.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC) had reported that greater part of the Horn of Africa is expected to receive heavy rains between January and March 2024.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has released guidelines aimed at keeping Kenyans safe during the rainy season.

To report emergencies, the hotlines are 719 or 0729 471414 and 0732353535.
