A mentorship programme has been launched by a social movement dubbed Wadau Wa Elimu where schools which perform well in KCSE help others in the neighbourhood to pull up.
The social movement, bringing together stakeholders in the education sector and government, comprises of notable individuals who include former KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion, Ugenya Sub-county TSC Director Bernard Orwasa, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, and Tenwek High School Principal Mutali Chesebe, among many others.
According to Sossion who spoke during Tenwek High School KCSE results thanksgiving ceremony, mentorship of other schools will help learners throughout the country to get quality education.
He said the movement will encourage benchmarking and mentorship to improve the standards of education and equalize it across all regions.
“Tenwek results is evidence of commitment that is a product of mentorship,” Sossion said, requesting the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to invest more in the employment of qualified teachers in schools countrywide without the harmful categorization into national, extra-county, county, or sub-county.
Orwasa, who is former Cheptenye High School Principal, said through their movement, Tenwek High will mentor four schools from Bomet and Kericho counties.
“The schools are Cheptenye High, Merigi Secondary, Chepkosigen and Koiwa Secondary schools,” he revealed.
According to Orwasa, Tenwek High has over the years been consistent in producing good results, which according to Sossion is due to the management’s push to employ teachers even under the school’s Board of Management (BoM).
Out of the 100 teachers in the school, 50 are employed by the BoM.
In the 2023 KCSE, Tenwek High School got 20 straight ‘A’s with a mean grade of 9.334.
