Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu during the inaugural Eliud Owalo Super Cup, the CS noted that soccer is today one of the biggest income earners in the world.

He said those who pursue soccer careers from the school level have the ability to become self-employed in future, opining that soccer development perfectly aligns with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which he noted nurtures talents of young lads from the formative stages.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Homabay Combined emerged champions after beating Kisumu Combined 4-2 on post-match penalties. They had battled to a barren drawn in regular time.
