MoE staff excited as reports of looming promotions filter out

The Public Service Commission of Kenya's Commission House.

Speculations at the Ministry of Education headquarters are rife that the Public Service Commission has promoted over 500 staff members across various departments, with everyone below job group T moving up to the next job group.

Education News has received information that the boost has been approved by the Public Service Commission, but the Ministry’s human resources department is yet to release the promotion letters.

“The promotions have been handed over to the department, but they are still in the process of distributing the letters to the staff,” our source said

In the ministry’s hierarchy, the director generals are below the principal secretaries and are in job group U, earning between Ksh. 292,765 and 576,120.

The directors, both departmental and regional, are in job group T, earning between Sh. 221,508 and 282,954.

This means that the promotion below job group T applies to all staff members, including subordinate staff, clerical officers, departmental professionals, as well as those at the levels of Deputy Directors and Sub County in job group S.

If the information is accurate, then all employees serving in the three state departments of Basic Education, Higher Education and Research, and Vocational and Technical Training will have a joyful Christmas.

The Public Service Commission Kenya salary scale for 2022 shows that senior civil servants fall under job grade E4, while the lowest-paid civil servants are placed in job grade B1, which is equivalent to Job Group U.

The Director Generals fall under this category and earn between Ksh. 292,765 and 576,120. The least paid staff members are between job groups (B1) A-D, earning between Ksh. 11,553 and 14,442.

According to the recent salary scale from the Salaries and Remunerations Commission (SRC), most directors fall within the E2 scale, which is equivalent to job group T, with salaries ranging between Ksh. 222,508 and 282,958.

It seems that officers in the ministry can look forward to positive changes in their career paths.
