The suspect in murder of Lucy Boke, a 23-year-old Beauty and Design first-year student at Kisii National Polytechnic has been arraigned in a Kisii Law Court.
The man, Stephen Wambua, also known as Orengo allegedly committed the murder on November 9, 20239 In the outskirts of Kisii town.
Senior Magistrate Caroline Rono presided over the proceedings, where the police handling the case requested additional time to compile investigation data for a comprehensive judgment.
Their request was granted, allowing for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the murder.
Reportedly, Lucy Boke’s untimely demise was attributed to a strained relationship with her intimate partner.
“Despite having a child together, societal norms and family objections, arising from their close blood relation, discouraged their marriage,” her uncle Ngwen Mtatiro stated.
The two families convened, agreeing that such a union was taboo in their community, leading to the separation of the ill-fated couple.
“Following the families’ decision, Lucy attempted to distance herself from her determined lover on several occasions,” Mtatiro noted.
Unfortunately, on the day of the murder, he trailed her from Migori to Kisii County.
In a rented room, he fatally stabbed her multiple times on the neck, leaving her lifeless in a bloodied apartment.
Responding to the distressing news, enraged students from Kisii National Polytechnic confronted the suspect at the crime scene, delivering retribution in the form of kicks and blows.
Lucy’s lifeless body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, while the accused received medical treatment before being detained at Kisii Central Police Station pending a court hearing.
Hailing from Masaba Village in Kuria East Constituency, Migori County, Lucy’s grieving mother, Amina Nyibembe, tearfully recounted her struggle as a widow raising and educating her daughter.
“Justice must be served in memory of my slain daughter,” she appealed.
Kisii Central Police Station Commander Isaac Kimwalele emphasized the intent to pursue murder charges in the case.
