Kiraitu Murungi to graduate with degree in happiness from Columbia varsity

Former Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi.

Former Meru Governor, Kiraitu Murungi is set to graduate from Columbia University in New York with a degree in happiness after successful completion of the course.

His decision to pursue this degree dubbed positive psychology emerged as a response to his disappointment and stress following his defeat in last year’s general elections, where he lost to independent candidate Kawira Mwangaza after serving as the county head for five years.

“I stumbled upon the course on happiness studies online, prompting him to enroll,” Murungi stated.

He has now successfully completed the programme and is preparing for his graduation ceremony at the university.

The former Governor emphasized the need to shift the focus away from the often overwhelming negativity that pervades society and put more positive energy in our lives.

He suggests that happiness and the brighter aspects of life are often underrepresented in history, media, and daily narratives.

“The course has provided valuable insights into achieving a more fulfilling and purposeful life,” he reiterated.

Kiraitu also candidly acknowledges the challenges faced by retirees, describing retirement as a potentially lonely and isolating phase in one’s life.

He noted that retirees often feel marginalized, irrelevant, and even burdensome to others.

He emphasized the importance of addressing two key issues affecting retirees: poverty and access to healthcare.

Kiraitu calls on the Cabinet Secretary for Labor, Social Services, and Social Protection, Florence Bore, to ensure that the recently signed Social Health Insurance Act does not impede healthcare access for elderly individuals, thus upholding their rights as outlined in the constitution.
