MP launches sporting tournament to keep youth busy during December holidays

Dr. Charles Onchoke, MP Bonchari

Bomchari MP Dr. Charles Onchoke has launched a ball games tournament to keep children busy and away from drugs during the long December holidays.

He said most youth are idle at home and this lures them into drug abuse, which eventually ruins their lives.

Besides, he said the constituency NG-CDF office had decided to promote sports to enable the youth from the region to discover their talents.

The legislator was speaking at Itierio Playground yesterday when he launched the tournament.

He said the sports activities will be played from Ward to the constituency levels, asking the officials to use the activities to build a standing constituency team.

“We want to invest in education and sports to enable our children to blend the two and be able to fend for themselves,” he said.

He asked local radio presenters and other personalities from various media houses to grace the event for the youth to learn from them.

Saying that journalism is an art, he encouraged talented youth who are not gifted academically to hone their skills in the media industry.

He appealed to the leaders from the area to join hands with teachers and church leaders to design more constructive activities that will occupy the youth during the long holidays.
