Student severely beaten by teacher in Cherang’any passes away

Veronica Atieno, a student at Sitatunga Secondary School in Cherang’any, Trans Nzoia has succumbed to injuries inflicted by corporal punishment from a teacher at the school.

Atieno passed away while receiving medical treatment after enduring a vicious assault on her neck and spine, leaving her completely incapacitated.

She tragically lost her ability to walk and move freely rendering her dependent on her family for essential care and mobility.

Her family and community have called on relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy to ensure justice is served and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

They have further called for implementation of stringent measures to prevent any form of violence or mistreatment against students.

Furthermore, they have asked the government to guarantee the safety and well-being of students in schools and also sensitize teachers on their crucial role as guardians and custodians of students’ physical and emotional welfare.
