Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Wednesday awarded education scholarship to a university student who had reached out to her for assistance.

During a bursary disbursement event in Matungulu East, the Governor invited the student to provide her account details along with the precise amount required.

According to the student, set to embark on her academic journey at Maasai Mara University, her annual school fees amounted to Ksh102,000.

“Why are you crying? You asked for my help and I will personally take up your school fees for the four years,” Governor Wavinya declared.

Governor Wavinya further encouraged the student to strive for excellence in her studies and advised her to maintain an open line of communication by sharing her academic progress throughout her course.

“Do not let me down, I will be your first parent and I need you to be disciplined,” she stated.

The county chief underscored her administration’s commitment to alleviating the challenges faced by parents, particularly in the prevailing economic difficulties.

“No deserving student should be denied the opportunity to pursue their dreams due to financial constraints. Education is a powerful tool that empowers individuals and drives progress within communities. I am honoured to support these students in their academic journey.”

Machakos residents lauded her action, expressing their concerns about the exorbitant cost of education which has strained household budgets.
