Ruto to hand charter to Open University of Kenya today

President William Ruto will be issuing a charter the Open University of Kenya (OUK) today.

The Konza Based university will officially be vetted as the 42nd university in the country.

The event will be graced by high level education stakeholders ranging from the Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, governors as well as  members of parliament across the country.

During the Madaraka Day celebrations at Moi Stadium in Embu  recently the President promised that the OUK will be admitting its first lot by September.

He assured that the government was committed to ensuring all Kenyans have access to quality education that is affordable and inclusive.

“We have taken all possible measures, and pursued every available option, to actualise our vision to make education at all levels accessible, affordable and inclusive, and removed social and economic barriers to the attainment of the highest level of education by Kenyans,” he said.

The one of a kind institution will integrate modern technology to deliver quality academic programmes and research, as well as breaking down geographical, economic, and social barriers that have excluded some students from university education.

OUK will be launched with an initial eight programmes, and thereafter expand to offer a continuum of bachelors, masters and doctoral programmes all will be purely online.

The programmes includes; Bachelor of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Technology Education, Bachelor of Science in Business and Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Economics and Statistics, and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Food Systems.

The postgraduate programmes are Leadership and Accountability, and Learning Design and Technology.
