CBC is here for good, Magoha affirms

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha has rubbished the claims doing rounds on social media about the probability of the incoming government doing away with the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Speaking to the press after opening two CBC Classrooms at Moi Girls Secondary School in Eldoret, the CS said that it was impossible to scrap the system considering the amount of time and effort that had been dedicated to roll out the programme.

“No government whatsoever will do away with CBC since at the moment we have 10 million children already undertaking it. Where will you take them? What they can do is to tweak it and make it better,” he said.

Prof. Magoha further assured parents that there was no cause for alarm as the Ministry had already trained enough teachers for Junior Secondary Schools thus smooth transition for the incoming learners was guaranteed.

“The government has trained teachers for grade seven and eight so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

The CS later on revealed that over 90 percent of Junior Secondary CBC classrooms had been completed.

“We are  focused in delivering the CBC classrooms and of the 10,000 classrooms we have done 9,000 classrooms and for the second set we are at 90 percent. We are sure we will meet the set deadline,” he said.

In addition, he said that the remaining classrooms will be completed by 5th September.

“Most of the remaining classrooms are at roofing level and will be delivered towards the end of next week or latest the other week Monday, so that if and when the new government takes over it gets a clean house where they can plan the way forward,” he added.
