It is a huge boost for the education sector across the country as the government launched a water sanitation program aimed at providing schools with clean water and sanitation facilities.
This is an initiative between the Water and Sanitization Ministry and the Ministry of Education.
Water Principal Secretary Dr. Paul Ronoh while speaking at Koiwa Secondary School in Konoin Constituency, Kericho County on July 17 said water sanitation was very essential in schools for the health of the learners.
The PS led in the planting of over 10,000 avocado trees at the school and urged leaders and Kenyans across the country to strive in conserving water catchment areas as he termed it crucial in ensuring sustainable use of water resources.
“We must ensure the survival and growth of trees by providing proper care, regular watering & protection from grazing animals.
Engaging local communities, schools, and youth groups in these efforts is essential to create a sense of ownership and inspire long-term stewardship,” he said.
At the same time, the PS said there was a need to protect the riparian lands surrounding the rivers and water catchment areas and ensure that the right trees are planted to prevent the common trend where seasonal rivers have dried up as well as the permanent rivers water levels are drastically dropping day by day.
