Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka has said the school capital that was released by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu cannot sustain schools for a longer period.
The MP argues that despite the government crediting school accounts with money, schools are still struggling to run programs.
Speaking in his Constituency on Wednesday when he met school principals, Wamboka blamed CS Machogu for assuring the MPs that his ministry will release 100 percent of school capital to schools but later gave schools less than 20 percent of the required amounts.
“CS Machogu was at the assembly and assured us that his ministry was going to release 100 percent capitation to schools,” he said.
Wamboka called on the government to fully support education and avoid politicizing the education sector.
He called on the Ministry of Education to release the remaining capitation as fast as possible.
He added that his NG-CDF office is determined to improve education standards in Bumula, saying that he had kick-started several projects that are running across the constituency.
In this financial year, Wamboka stated that the Constituency kitty will facilitate the construction of storey buildings for classrooms in every ward as being one of the strategies to improve education in Bumula and its environs.
“When I took over Bumula as an MP, it was very low in terms of Education that is why I have focused more on ensuring that Education is given a priority,” he said.
The MP attributed early teen pregnancy and absenteeism to dropped performance in Bumula schools saying that parents whose children are not in school will be liable for a stern action against them.
Wamboka said that he has agreed with all school heads that the lowest mean grade should be at 4.5 and the highest at 7.0.
On his part, Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka said that his administration has allocated resources to hire more 115 ECDE teachers across the County.
