Machogu bashed for disbursing insufficient capitation funds to schools

Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Bungoma branch Chairman David Barasa has called out Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu for disbursing insufficient capitation funds to schools.

In an interview with Education News, Barasa revealed that his office has received complaints from school heads that they have not received full capitation funds to run schools.

He revealed that there is a school in the county expected to get Ksh800,000 for capitation yet it only received Ksh100,000.

“As unionists, we are very annoyed with how CS Machogu is running the education docket, he must come out boldly and address the issues affecting the education system rather than feeding us lies,” he said.

Barasa called on parents to ensure their learners submit birth certificates to schools so that they all have UPI numbers.

The KUPPET boss expressed contentment with the Governor Lusaka’s regime, which has finished up the gazettement of municipalities in the county that had been proposed by the former governor.

“As teachers we are very happy because come July this year, we will have an increase in our payslips courtesy of municipality allowances,” he said.

Barasa slammed the union National Chairman Omboko Milemba for supporting the controversial Finance Bill 2023.

“KUPPET did not send anybody to vote yes for the Finance Bill, our National Chairman should know that he messed with us,” he said.

Elsewhere, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera said that inadequate teachers in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) was becoming a crisis and was making it hard to implement CBC.
