Former Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch Executive Secretary Ben Nyakundi has asked students learning in day secondary schools to take advantage of the convenience and work harder in their studies.
He noted that most students travel to far-flung schools exposing them to challenges such as fare unavailability and homesickness.
“You are near home where you can eat, reach parents and relatives at any time and these advantages should assist you to settle and conquer problems related to your academic pursuit,” he said.
The educationist was speaking to parents, teachers and students of Mokomoni Secondary School in Bomachoge Borabu constituency during the awarding of 2022 KCSE candidates.
They were awarded with laptops, suitcases and mobile phones.
He said the school, established in 1978, has stagnated for long pointing a finger to ethnic unrests along the Kisii-Transmara boundary.
Nyakundi thanked the local administration from both sides, who have encouraged peace through curbing cattle rustling.
“There has been peace in this area for the last ten years because of our leaders’ efforts and now I urge the school fraternity to reclaim their academic glory,” he said.
School Principal Mr. Imayio noted that the school had started to revive its glory, managing to take 16 out of 80 students to university in the 2022 KCSE examinations.
