One of Kisii’s oldest schools holds prize-giving day

Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament (MP) Anthoney Kibagendi has assured parents and students that his office will continue supporting education development in terms of schools infrastructure in the area.

“We are trying to improve the infrastructure of our schools to create an enabling environment for learners and you must appreciate that by working hard to post good results,” he said.

Speaking during the school’s prize giving ceremony on Friday, the MP noted that the school is one of the oldest girls’ schools in Kisii County and had to perform well in KCSE examinations to continue the performance heritage.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Kisii branch Chair Joyce Orioki reiterated her earlier message reprimanding those who said that schools from the region were favoured in the 2022 KCSE examinations.

“We have a track record of doing well in the national examinations. Let those with jealousy watch us revive our past academic glory,” she said.

School Chief Principal Mrs. Rose Onditi said that despite a few challenges, the school was on an upward trajectory from a mean score of 4.04 in 2019 to 5.96 in 2022.

She said the trend has motivated both students and teachers to set a target of 6.5 for this year.

“We have combined all available resources ranging from manpower to learning resources to ensure we achieve our target,” she said.

The principal cited early completion of the syllabus and thorough revision by the candidates as the main strategies they have put in place.

In 2022, the institution presented 107 candidates out of which 35 students attained direct university entry.

She urged parents to visit the school and plan how to pay school fees instead of waiting for students to be sent home.

Onditi noted that the three-streamed institution experiences challenges of overstretched classrooms and dormitories and appealed to the Ministry of Education and the area NG-CDF to chip in and improve the infrastructure.
