The government through the National Treasury has allocated Ksh5.7 billion in form of appropriation in aid and Ksh40 million to Konza’s smart university, the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), in the 2023/2024 Financial Year.

The allocation, which is meant to facilitate the completion of the university, is according to the budget estimates published by the National Treasury under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The government has further allocated Ksh4.8 billion for the horizontal infrastructural development of Konza technology city, which include putting in place utilities such as roads, water and power supply, ICT networks as well as public facility buildings such as police and fire stations.

The university is set to train and produce graduates of science, technology and innovation as part of the government’s interventions to drive digital transformation through skills enhancement.

In 2021, the institution initially got a whooping Ksh9.6 billion credit facility from South Korea.

As per the construction plan, the campus will comprise 10 research science labs working as operation spaces for specialised local and international researchers in science, technology and engineering.
