Secondary school head teachers from Trans Nzoia have been urged to exercise prudent use of resources in their respective learning institutions.

Area Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairperson, John Murumba further said that school heads are the custodians of government property.

Speaking in Kisumu at the start of their KESSHA Western regional annual conference, Murumba said schools have many activities hence the need for principals to exercise prudent use of resources.

Murumba said the school heads are the accounting officers at the end of the day.

The chairperson urged school heads not to take too much time in their offices but should instead lead from the front.

Murumba said school heads should make it a routine to inspect kitchens, dormitories and any other facilities within their areas of jurisdiction.

Murumba indicated that the school managers should also adhere to public health regulations in order to safeguard the safety of learners.

He said the cooks in schools should have health certificates given the sensitive nature of the areas in which they work.

Murumba similarly said that school heads should recruit qualified drivers in order to avoid catastrophes in accidents like in the past.

He also said they should be one another’s custodians as he advised them to relate well with parents and guardians.
