KEPSHA elects new leaders, announces dates for national AGM

The Kenya Primary School Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) has made changes in its national, regional and county leadership to replace those who are heading for retirement and those who have been elevated to the National Executive Board.

The changes which were adopted by the Association’s National Governing Council’s (NGC) meeting which was held on April 13, 2023 in Nairobi also saw Irene Yiaile being the first woman in to be sworn in as National Secretary in 20 years, replacing Philip Mitei who is heading for retirement.

Francis Ndirangu is now the Deputy National Secretary replacing Humphrey Gitonga while James Macharia will now take over as the new Organising and Publicity Secretary, replacing Fatuma Olow.

Those who have now joined the Association’s National Executive Board (NEB) as new members are Nicodemus Musyoka, Meshack Roche, Hussein Dubat and Abraham Siala.

In Nyanza region, Migori County Chairman David Okello has replaced Roche who has joined the NEB, while Nyanza Regional Treasurer Machungu Peter Nyakarioki has replaced Elly Ondieki who is now KEPSHA Nyanza Regional Chairman replacing Roche.

In Coast region, the new changes are that Ali Abdalla is now the Regional Chairman replacing Omari Pofu who has retired, while in Western Region; Bernard Biketi is now KEPSHA Bungoma County Chairman replacing Ronald Lupao who has also retired.

The new changes in Eastern region include: Edwin Muchura who is now the Embu County chairman replacing Madam Joyce who has retired, Pascal Mutunga is now the new Makueni County Chairman replacing Musyoka who has joined the NEB as a member; while Derick Mutunga is now the Eastern Regional Chairman who too replaces Musyoka.

In Rift Valley Region, Pius Chepkurui is the Chairman in Elgeyo Marakwet replacing Siala who has joined the NEB as a member while Patrick Kitur is the new Rift Valley Regional Chairman replacing Siala who held the position before joining the NEB member.

Irene Muchoki is now Nairobi Region Woman representative replacing Roselyn Apondi who has retired. The replacements for North Eastern region were however suspended during the meeting.

During the NGC meeting, the Association’s National Chairman Johnson Nzioka congratulated the headteachers in the country for ensuring that transition to Junior Secondary (JSS) at Grade 7 which is domiciled in primary section was a success.

He however urged the government through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to consider giving primary school headteachers letters for the positions they are currently acting as JSS Principals.

Mr. Nzioka also announced the new dates for KEPSHA regional meetings and conferences with Coast region having its meeting and conference from April 24 – 25, 2023 in Busia’s Farm View Hotel; while Central region conducting its regional conference on April 24 – 28, 2023 at Thingitu Secondary School in Laikipia County.

The headteachers in Nairobi region will have their conferences from April 21- 23, 2023 at Bamburi Beach Hotel in Mombasa while those in Eastern region will have their AGM and conference from April 24 – 28, 2023 at Ronald Ngala Primary School in Mombasa.

Nyanza headteachers will have their regional conference at Gusii Stadium in Kisii from April 23 – 27, 2023 as those in Rift Valley region will hold their regional conference at Nanyuki in Laikipia County from May 3 – 6, 2023.

The regional conferences will be in preparations for the National AGM and conference which will be held in Mombasa from November 4 – 10, 2023 where the Association will be celebrating 20 years of existence.
