Kisii County Inter-Secondary School games which have been going on through part of last week ended successfully on Sunday. The eventful games saw traditional champions being defeated as new ones emerge in most of the matches.
In the Basketball matches, Kisii National School emerged the new champions after beating the defending champions Nyanchwa Boys’ High School with 66 points to 64.
Nyanchwa had retained well, eyeing the coveted trophy for three consecutive years after beating Cardinal Otunga Mosocho at 77-50 last year.
The Kisii School’s head Coach Kepha Mogire conceded the defeat saying that their time will come again.
“We have accepted the results and wish our opponents good lucky as they proceed to regionals,” he said.
The defending Champions in rugby 15s Nduru Boys’ School lost their title to Kisii School at 18 to 0 although the latter showed good coordinated style during the epic fight.
Kisii School Principal, Mr. Fred Mogaka, who doubles as the head Coach of his school’s Basketball team could not hide his amusement.
“Congratulations to my boys in both teams for making us proud .We trained smart and now we have witnessed impressive returns” he said.
The handball tag saw Nduru Boys beat Ndonyo 25 to 20 after a long protracted resistance.
In the girls’ category, St. Angela Sengera Girls from Bomachoge Chache Constituency defended their supremacy by retaining the Handball trophy when they showed down Kereri Girls’ High School at 47-17.
Omobera Girls of Kenyenya Sub-county trounced their old rival Ndonyo Mixed by hitting them 25 to 19 during the muscle tightening game.
Kisii Branch Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha who graced the occasion lauded the County’s sports trainers and Coaches for the good work they were doing.
“You have shown that we can train good teams that can stand to seize National glory,” he said.
He promised that his office will continue supporting sports activities because they play a pivotal role in the development of education.
Kisii County Sports Association Secretary, Geoffrey Nyantika, expressed his satisfaction on the high standard the teams exhibited during the competitions.
He thanked the coaches for training and refining their teams that advance each year and attributed it to the good support provided by individual principals of the institutions.
The secretary reveal that the winners will represent the County in Nyanza Regional Games scheduled for April 4 to April 8 at Kisii National School.
