Machakos County schools became the overall winners of Eastern drama festivals held at Katoloni Secondary School within the same county.
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti said the hard work in planning of the event by the organizers has paid off as evident in Machakos county winning the Eastern region festivals this year.
With this year’s drama festival theme; Fostering digital transformation through film and theatre, the governor congratulated the winning teams from different counties adding that the county intends to roll out talent academy centres for performing arts and sports in all Machakos sub counties.
Ndeti pointed out that by doing so, it will be a way of enabling the county to continue nurturing talents so that youths, county and country as a whole can benefit.
The host principal Francis Ndimu thanked the committee which saw it good for his school to host the event.
He said in Katoloni, available parking, nearness to town, having one of the biggest hall were among factors considered for his school to even host secondary subcounty festivals, primary schools county festivals then secondary school regional festivals.
Among the schools that took Machakos to the top were Machakos school, Matuu memorial, Africa volleyball champion Kwathanze mixed and Machakos girls.
However Mwaani Girls, Kalawa Boys and Vulueni Secondary made the neighboring Makueni County shine with Mwaani Girls being the only school in Eastern region proceeding with best two items to national level.
“We produced best narrative and also won in our play. Surprisingly we are the only school in Eastern region proceeding to the national level with two items,” Deputy principal Anne Boore said.
She added that dedication, a well scripted play and narrative, thorough practice and enough support from the chief principal Joan Muchina and school at large is what brought the win.
The deputy added that they are very hopeful to go even beyond the national level.
Other schools in Eastern region proceeding to national level are Kangaru Girls, St. Rita Amwamba, Nguviu Boys, Kaaga, Meru school, Tumaini Girls, Kanyueri, Ndagoni, Kimuchia, Nkuene Girls and Kamaguna.
Yumbisye secondary made Kitui County proud by emerging the only school proceeding to nationals.
