Drivers and their crew have been cautioned against careless driving and handling of their passengers in order to save lives from perishing on the roads.
While addressing parents, teachers and students of Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi Secondary School, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha mourned the school’s teacher who died on a road accident.
The late Robert Nyairo Otieno was among the three travellers who died on a road accident at Keragia black spot along Mogonga-Kisii highway last week.
His body was preserved at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary from where it was removed on Wednesday for viewing at his school.
During the mass prayer meeting that was presided over by the local priest Fr. Francis Moses, tears fell freely from the students who mourned their teacher.
Mr. Abincha mourned with the Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi Secondary fraternity and asked them to be resilient.
“At such sorrowful moments I know it is hard to come to terms and accept this hard reality but I appeal to all of you to mourn but be resilient enough to continue with life after this,” he said.
He asked teachers to join hands and remain firm in solidarity especially at the times of death.
“We have to stay together always during such times and provide financial and moral support to our friends’ families who meet such sudden misfortunes,” he added.
The school principal Mr. Boniface Masese termed the deceased a focused teacher who loved his work and students with zeal.
“I met a young man who was ready to shape the lives of his learners with determination when I transferred to this school two months ago,” the head teacher revealed.
The Principal appealed to the residents to depend on God at all times to sustain their lives.
”We are a Christian school and I pray that we shall stand as a family to walk with you in all ways,” he said.
The principal asked students to remain calm after the burial of the teacher and cooperate with the rest of the teachers to work hard in class and post good grades in their examinations as a sign of honoring their departed teacher.
