Shinyalu Constituency has disbursed over Ksh.30 million as bursaries for needy students.
The funds will benefit 7,000 learners in secondary and tertiary institutions.
Speaking when he released the cheques to the various schools, area MP Fred Ikana said the students in secondary schools who had benefited were those in forms two, three and four.
He said they were targeting another batch of 5,000 needy learners in form one.
“We did due diligence and helped all the deserving cases after vetting,” he added.
Ikana pointed out that the number of beneficiaries this year was the highest in the history of the constituency.
He said one of his main priorities was to combat illiteracy by ensuring that all learners acquired education.
The MP said he was also keen to renovate and make expansions in existing schools to accommodate more learners.
He stated that he had placed more than 800 other needy but bright students on full scholarships courtesy of his Ikana Maendeleo Foundation which he funds from his personal income.
