Quoting from the book of St. Luke, the cleric stressed how Jesus Christ grew physically, in knowledge and spirit before finding favor from both God and man.

“We should teach our young ones along these principles to enable them live in harmony within their environment,” she said.

She asked Schools to make use of the ongoing rain in the area to plant trees as part of efforts towards mitigating climate change effects.

“Climate change is a global enemy that should be fought with a lot of seriousness before it finishes us,” she said.

During the brief meeting that was hosted by the school’s management Committee, Mrs. Smith led her team and the pupils to plant 200 trees in the school.

“We are going to make this event an annual activity as we start small and finally reach our ultimate goal of planting more than one million trees,” she added.

On her part, the head teacher Mrs. Mary Ogembo, thanked the church for visiting the school.

She said that her institution started in 1951 but lamented that the classrooms were in a wanting state.

She said the school has more than 500 pupils, majority of them coming from single parents while others are orphaned.

“We desire to start feeding programme but our financial strength is low and we call on any well-wisher to chip,” she pleaded.

Her message was echoed by the school Chairman who added that the they need other learning facilities like more class readers’ books to improve reading culture among the pupils.

Mrs. Smith and her team promised to study the requests and see if the church will be able to help the school to grow.
