Principals asked to release students, teachers to EA games

School across the country have been asked to release students who qualified for the East African games to participate in the games and told to take extra curriculum activities seriously like other classroom subjects as they help in the holistic development of their learners towards exploiting talents in the field.
According to the a letter seen by Education News, various principals were asked to release teachers and their selected students to participate in the Championship scheduled for March 10 and 11 in Darsalaam, Tanzania.
“In this regard you are requested to enable them travel for the championship in Tanzania,” read part of the letter.
While speaking at St.Peters Keberesi Secondary School on March 4,  Kisii Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha lauded the school for supporting games and sports that have produced potential sportswomen and men constantly for the last one decade.
‘You started small but you are now headed to represent the country in the East Africa Championship and beyond,” he said.
The secretary graced the the school’s internal ceremony to release two form three students who will travel to Tanzania to participate in the Under 18/20 East Africa inter school Athletics Championship
According to the School’s games teacher Mr.Dennis Thomas Odongo, the two girls; Beatrice Machoka and Mercy Bosiboti, took thorough training to enable them reach the standard of competing internationally.
He thanked the school principal Mr Maeri for his unreserved support and promised him that the students will return with desirable results.
According to the Executive Committee Member and Chairman of Youth Development, Mr.Barnab Korir, the Kenya team that will travel to Tanzania will comprise 16 students and 5 teachers.
Other Schools that will release their learners to take part in the championship include Nangina Girls, Kelyet, Tiloa and Kimwago Mixed Secondary School.
Also in list is Kiptere, Andersens, Kipstet and Premier School in Nairobi.
The chairman wished the team good luck as they travel to represent the country in Tanzania.
