Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Tharaka Nithi branch has called on the government to pay outstanding allowances to personnel who supervised 2022 national examinations.
The branch Executive Secretary Mr. Njeru Mutani said that supervisors, invigilators, centre managers and security personnel who supervised the examinations are yet to be paid their allowances despite the government giving them a clean bill of health.
Speaking in his office in Chuka town, Mutani said the Ministry of Education confirmed that the teachers had done a commendable job after announcement of the results.
“The teachers invigilated and marked the KCPE, KCPE and KPSEA examinations. The results were announced and the Ministry of Education confirmed that there were no issues. We are wondering what went wrong because nobody has been paid up to now,” he said.
The official termed the delay to pay them as total impunity.
“We want service and justice. Let the government immediately pay the outstanding dues so that they can be motivated and assured that next time they supervise the national exams they will be paid,” said the KNUT official.
He said the government is setting a bad precedence by failing to pay teachers their outstanding dues noting the move will discourage them from participating in the exercise in the future.
