Fifteen schools in Bungoma County failed to turn up today to pick their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations papers.
Speaking to the press at Bungoma DEB Primary school after officially commissioning the start of the National Exams, Bungoma Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr. Duncan Okwatch noted that six private learning institutions registered for the exams but did not show up to take the papers.
According to Mr. Okwatch the schools have not yet given any reason as to why they have skipped to pick the exam papers noting that investigations are underway into the matter.
Bungoma County has a total of 59,272 candidates sitting for KPSEA while 54,104 candidates are sitting for KCPE with 1,007 and 955 exam centres for the former and latter respectively
The DCC was accompanied by the County Director of Education Mr. Philip Chirchir who noted that there were no major challenges experienced so far.
“The exams are still held in our stores as investigations carry on. Nobody will tamper with the exams,” he said.
