Learners across Nairobi County schools participated in Paukwa Kids Open Day where they showcased their talents in an event dubbed Hummingbird Tales hosted by Paukwa Kids.

The 150 learners from 15 schools presented their experiences of learnings through plays, songs, folk dances, poems, STEM demos, artworks and so much more.

Most of the presentations were about climate change, peacefully coexistence, good leadership and many other community issues facing the country.

The aim of Hummingbird Tales is to instill positive values of resilience, determination, responsibility, excellence, patriotism, hard work, service, care, peace, love, compassion, passion, justice and humility among others in children.

Paukwa Kids lead Ann Thuo said that learning has moved from traditional way of books to digital means and that Paukwa has been offering learning digitally in a bid to provide more e-content for children.

“We are using the cartoon model and the children are more responsive and also learn quickly,” she said.

Hassan Kuya, a teacher at Tujisaidie Community School said that teachers have been taken through on what Paukwa does and it was time for the learners to learn.

He said Paukwa tells stories to teach social values.

“The learners interacted with Paukwa people and can now relate that they are real people,” he added

Kenya National Library Services officer Mary Munanga called on schools to utilize library services.

She said that library services are currently affordable and children could access any required and be trained on art for free.

Paukwa Kids curates and produces educational content for children. Since 2021 they have been working with 1500 children drawn from 15 schools in the low-income areas of Nairobi to disseminate the Hummingbird Tales animations which feature inspirational life stories of Kenyans.
