Fire razes down property worth millions at Kisumu Boys

Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed at the Kisumu Boys High School following a Friday morning fire which destroyed some of the dormitories.

It was not immediately established the extent of the damage as investigations got underway.

Kisumu City manager Mr Abala Wanga, who was among top county officials to arrive at the learning institution, said their firefighting department moved swiftly and contained the morning inferno.

Wanga said that he got the first call from the governor Professor Anyang Nyong’o who informed him about the fire.

He lauded the fire fighters for the gallant efforts in fighting the fire.

School principal Duncan Otieno said the fire started shortly before 9 AM but no casualty was reported.

Otieno said some 100 students have been affected following the inferno.

He said the school Board will sit and agree on the next course of action, adding that they suspect an electrical fault.

Kisumu East Sub-county Assistant County Commissioner Hussein Alanson Hussein said it is still difficult to ascertain the extent of the damage caused.

Kisumu Central MP-Elect Dr Joshua Oron said they will work with the school management to ensure that normalcy is restored at the institution.

Panic-stricken parents yesterday jammed the institution demanding to know the fate of their children.
