Friends’ School Teremi High School in Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma County has been closed down after fire razed down a dormitory on Tuesday morning.
The dormitory, known as Taifa Hostel, housed 188 students.
Speaking to Education News, Chief Principal Dr. Elphas Aliva said that the fire incident happened when students were in class.
He revealed that no student was hurt and that the cause of the fire has not yet been established
He added that the school is saddened by the incident given the candidates are preparing for the forthcoming national exams.
He called on parents to remain calm as the cause of fire is being investigated.
Bungoma Central Sub- County Director of Education Kennedy Onduro said students will go home for a short break and resume learning next week after the school has found a place for the affected students to stay.
He noted that the school will communicate with parents on the date for reopening and asked students who come from far to remain in school or seek direction from class teachers and departmental heads.
Onduro called on well-wishers and local leaders to intervene and donate uniforms, bedding, books and pens to the affected students.
Bokoki ward MCA Jack Kawa, who is a parent at the school, asked Bungoma county government to move with speed and purchase fire extinguishers to help in such fire incidents.
The incident comes barely two weeks after fire razed down dormitories in Mabanga Girls, Nalondo Boys High School and Sikusi Boys.
